Choosing a Decorative Stone
Specialty landscape stone ranges from fine pea gravel to bold river rock and crushed granite. Color, size, and texture all affect the look and function. Darker stones (Black Star, Shadow Rock) absorb heat — keep this in mind in full-sun Texas landscapes. Light-colored stones (marble, white gravel) reflect heat and light. Decomposed granite and crushed granite compact for pathways. Rounded river rock stays loose and is better for drainage features.
