Choosing the Right Road Base
Road base and aggregate materials are rated by gradation — the mix of particle sizes from fines to larger rock. Smaller gradations (Grade 4, Grade 5, #2, 3/4") compact tighter and are ideal for driveways, roads, and base layers. - Gate or entrance wide enough for a dump truck
- Delivery area has stable, dry ground
- Remove parked vehicles and obstructions
- Check for low tree limbs, power lines, carports, and roof overhangs
- Mark the preferred dump location clearly
- Avoid septic systems, drain fields, irrigation lines, and soft ground
- Enough room for the truck to turn around or safely back in
